The NECA NSW 2026 Excellence Awards were held on Friday, 4 September 2026 at Accor Stadium.  The awards ceremony celebrates excellence, safety, and innovation across the electrical and communications industry.

We are proud to announce that our Fredon NSW Electrical team were winners in the Commercial Large category and received a High Commendation in the X-Commercial Large category.

Winners Commercial Large Project – 580 George Street

Fredon is proud to have been recognised for the successful delivery of the 580 George St Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade, a complex project undertaken within a live, fully occupied commercial tower in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.

The Electrical CSG team were engaged to provide the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the building’s electrical infrastructure. The project required meticulous planning and staged delivery to ensure uninterrupted power supply for tenants throughout the works.

The project involved the complete upgrade of critical electrical infrastructure, including the installation of new main switchboards, generator switchboards and distribution boards, along with the replacement of consumer mains and submains. Extensive works also included fire-rated cabling, riser reconfiguration and carefully managed cutovers to maintain business continuity.

Successfully completed in March 2026, the project demonstrates Fredon’s expertise in delivering complex electrical infrastructure upgrades within occupied environments, providing a modern, resilient and future-ready power system while maintaining uninterrupted operations for building occupants.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

High Commendation Commercial X-Large – The Children’s Hospital at Westmead & Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick

Fredon’s delivery of the electrical and communications services for new children’s hospital buildings across the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN) demonstrates the power of strategic commercial leadership, collaborative partnerships and integrated project delivery.

Rather than pursuing each project independently, Fredon identified an opportunity to create greater value by securing and delivering both developments concurrently. This innovative commercial strategy enabled a single, coordinated delivery model that eliminated duplication across procurement, administration and project preliminaries, accelerated mobilisation, streamlined stakeholder engagement and improved scheduling efficiencies. The approach also removed the complexity of managing multiple design pathways across each site’s Project User Groups (PUGs), creating a consistent and collaborative delivery framework while reducing overall project costs by approximately 5%.

Fredon’s value extended well beyond traditional contracting. Working from an 80% developed tender design, our team collaborated closely with the project team, clinicians and user groups to refine the remaining scope within challenging architectural constraints. Through proactive value engineering, the team introduced enhanced lighting solutions, improved electrical accessories and optimised Medical Services Panel designs that increased functionality, improved performance and reduced cost without compromising quality, safety or design intent.

This collaborative approach transformed Fredon’s role from electrical contractor to trusted delivery partner. The strength of our commercial strategy, technical expertise and commitment to delivering long-term value resulted in Fredon’s scope being expanded across the redevelopments, recognising our ability to consistently deliver innovative and commercially sound outcomes.

Completed on time, on budget and to world-class healthcare standards, these landmark redevelopments will support generations of children, families, clinicians and researchers.
