The NECA QLD 2026 Excellence Awards were held on Friday, 17 July 2026 at The W Brisbane, with the gala event celebrating the achievements of the Queensland electrical industry. The NECA Awards recognise the individuals, teams, and businesses driving excellence across the electrical and communications industry. With categories covering apprentices, businesses, technical achievement, safety, innovation, leadership, and project excellence, the awards showcase the very best our industry has to offer.

Winners Voice/Data Communications & Audio Visual – Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre
The Fredon QLD Electrical team were recognised in the Voice/Data Communications & Audio-Visual category for their outstanding work on the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre project.
This recognition highlights the successful delivery of a highly complex voice, data and communications package across a secure, multi-building correctional precinct. The scope included structured copper cabling, fibre optic backbone infrastructure, communication rooms, equipment racks, patching, future-proofing provisions, and seamless integration with ICT, security and specialist systems.
The project demanded exceptional planning, technical expertise and coordination, with precision required throughout every stage of delivery. Through detailed design finalisation, effective interface management, rigorous testing and disciplined commissioning, the Fredon team delivered a robust, scalable and operationally resilient communications solution that will support the facility well into the future.

Finalists Commercial X-Large Project – Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre
The Fredon QLD Electrical team, engaged by John Holland, successfully delivered the Electrical and Communications Services packages for the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre — a new high-security men’s correctional facility designed to support rehabilitation and reduce reoffending.
This modern, purpose-built development showcases Fredon’s capability in delivering a major electrical and communications package on one of Queensland’s largest and most complex correctional infrastructure projects. The works included power distribution, lighting, communications systems, testing, commissioning, and system integration, requiring strong commercial management, technical coordination, and disciplined delivery across a secure, multi-building environment.
With substantial scope growth, a peak workforce of approximately 280 personnel and more than 690,000 hours worked, the project demanded exceptional planning, collaboration, and execution. Fredon successfully delivered a robust, future-focused, and operationally resilient outcome within a highly controlled project setting.

Finalists Work Health & Safety – Excellence in Action – WHS Slogan Initiative ‘Safe by Choice, Not by Chance’
The ‘Safe by Choice, Not by Chance’ campaign was recognised for its innovative approach to promoting a positive safety culture across the workforce. The initiative encouraged workers to think beyond procedures and take personal responsibility for creating safe outcomes every day.
Team members were invited to submit slogan ideas, with the winning slogan shortlisted by senior management before being voted on by the workforce. The chosen message was then featured on custom TradeMutt shirts worn across the project, creating a visible and meaningful reminder of the importance of safety, accountability and mental health.
By placing these conversations at the forefront of the day-to-day work environment, the campaign has helped reinforce Fredon’s commitment to ensuring that everyone returns home safely while fostering a culture where people look out for one another.
