BlueScope Coil Plate Line No.2

Services: Installation

Location: Port Kembla, NSW

BlueScope’s new Coil Plate / Stretch Levelling Line is a manufacturing line designed to process 30 tonne mass hot rolled coils from their Hot Strip Mill and convert it to coil plates up to 6mm in gauge, 1500mm wide and 6m in length. The new line is one of only two types of manufacturing lines in Australia, both operated by BlueScope Steel.

Fredon was engaged to complete the design verification, construction and installation of the electrical components of the new Coil Plate line, utilising our previous line installation experience with BlueScope. Works commenced in December 2019 and included:

  • 11Kv High Voltage supply cable installation and termination.
  • Supply and install all cable reticulation, including tray, underground conduits & pits.
  • Installation and termination of all associated cabling onsite.
  • Installation and termination of all building data, fibre, wireless access point and camera cabling.
  • Installation of electrical equipment.
  • Switchroom fire detection works.
  • Commissioning
  • Overhead crane modifications/upgrades

This project was highly technical as the team had limited access to installation and troubleshooting solutions. Fredon had to coordinate the works before the mechanical contractor completed the installation of the machinery equipment, resulting in Fredon completing 80% of the cable racking using a 3D model to map out the installation points to ensure some sections were still accessible after the mechanical contractor installed the equipment. This 3D modelling resulted in zero rework or interference with equipment installation.

Fredon completed the project in April 2020.
