New Sydney Metro platforms are currently being delivered under Central Station as well as the landmark Central Walk – a new underground pedestrian concourse to help customers get around Sydney’s busiest railway station.

Sydney Metro City & Southwest is a 30-kilometre extension of metro rail from the end of Sydney Metro North West at Chatswood under Sydney Harbour, through new CBD stations and south west to Bankstown. It is due to open in 2024 with seven new metro stations and 11 upgraded stations.

Central Station Metro works form part of Sydney Metro City & Southwest.

The refurbishments at Central Station also include infrastructure upgrades in and around the precinct that are necessary for the new operations of the metro station.

Fredon have been engaged to provide the Electrical, Communications and HVAC works for both the existing areas of the station and the new metro station. These areas include public spaces such as the new Metro Box, Northern and Grand Concourses, Eastern Suburbs Railway Concourse, the new Central Walk pedestrian concourse, and critical back of house areas.

The works at Central Station are set to be completed by the end of 2022.
