The heritage-listed Downing Centre Building is one of the largest courthouses in the southern hemisphere. Located in the south end of Sydney’s CBD, the building underwent an extensive renovation to increase its facilities to provide further efficient services.

The refurbishment included four new courtrooms – three dedicated to Local Court matters and one specifically for Drug Court matters. An additional six interview rooms, four remote witness rooms, and extra meeting rooms for other legal and support services were also part of the extension.

Fredon’s engagement on this project was due to our previous experience and knowledge of court technology integrations.

Works on the project began in November 2020, with the team completing AV integrations, configurations, testing and commissioning for the technology systems located in various rooms of the courthouse, including:

• 4 Courtrooms
• 4 Remote Witness rooms
• 1 Legal Suite
• Video Conferencing room
• 8 Digital signage spaces
• 3 MATV spaces 

The new facilities were completed in May 2021.
