The University of Technology Sydney’s Tech Lab is a leading-edge education, research and development centre and is also home to the university’s Faculty of Engineering and IT researchers. The construction of the 9,000m2 collaborative hub was part of the university’s 10 Year City Campus Master Plan, which commenced in 2008.

Located in Botany, the centre is designed for engineering and IT agencies to collaborate on new innovative technology developments. It features specialised labs and research facilities such as acoustic laboratories, structural testing facilities, data analytics lab and motion simulation lab.

Fredon provided the Design and Construction of the mechanical elements of the project. Works began in September 2017 and involved the following:

  • a new air cooled central plant
  • compressed air system
  • specialist exhaust systems
  • fume cupboards
  • close-control computer room units
  • duct extraction systems
  • high efficiency VRV system

The Research & Development centre officially opened its doors in September 2018.
