Morphettville Bus Depot was selected by the South Australian Government for electrification works to transition the depot to a base for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, supporting the introduction of 60 Battery Electric Buses (BEBs).
Fredon Infrastructure, working in close partnership Transit Systems’ Adelaide bus operator, Torrens Transit, delivered full Design and Construct (D&C) services for the civil and electrical infrastructure supporting charging systems for this new fleet at Morphettville Bus Depot. The scope encompassed detailed design, balance-of-plant civil and electrical installation, and commissioning, alongside interim charging provisions for 20 BEBs across the Morphettville and Mile End depots.
The works included installing two new Main Switchboards (MSBs), modifying existing MSBs to Distribution Boards, and installing associated control, communications, and low-voltage cabling. The package included the turnkey installation, testing, and energisation of three C802 Dual and three C803 Triple Kempower charging cabinets, providing 60 Kempower single STC5CS satellite charging points.
The charging infrastructure was integrated with the site’s load controller and dynamic charge management systems, enabling efficient management of the depot’s electrical capacity. Through the successful delivery of this critical infrastructure, Fredon Infrastructure supported the State Government’s transition to a zero-emission bus fleet and contributed to the advancement of sustainable public transport in South Australia.
The team was recognised at Fredon’s annual conference, winning the Minor Project Award for 2026.
