The Locomotive Workshop, South Eveleigh

Services: Installation

Client: Mirvac

Location: South Eveleigh, NSW

The historic and heritage-listed Locomotive Workshop at South Eveleigh has undergone a carefully considered revitalisation to become a new inner-city cultural hub, merging the heritage machinery and structure into new state-of-the-art retail and commercial spaces.

The development took place in two stages, Stage 1 being the 8,000m2 retail upgrade and Stage 2 being the 22,000m2 commercial upgrade.

Fredon also had early contractor involvement, which allowed the team to contribute to the mechanical design. This included maximising the building’s Net Lettable Area (NLA) using specialised pod plant rooms located on top of the amenities blocks.

When installing and integrating the new mechanical services and Building Management System (BMS) to the existing plant, the team worked in a live environment, with the priority to keep the services active and without disruptions for the building’s existing tenants.

The revitalisation of the Locomotive Workshop was completed in 2021.
