The CIT Woden project involves the design and construction (D&C) of a 22,000m2 purpose built vocational, technical, and further education facility for up to 6,500 students a year, which will provide a technological skills delivery precinct, with a particular focus on information technology (IT), cyber security, business and hospitality skills and training opportunities, required to meet the growing demands of industry, the ACT community and surrounding regional areas.
The campus will provide state-of-the-art facilities for teaching, learning, and technical training as well as a Youth Foyer which provides safe and secure accommodation, communal and support service spaces for residents in order to facilitate the development of life skills and support their education goals.
Fredon Technology has been engaged to supply, design, install and commission the Cisco VC teaching spaces, as well as TV Studios, Music Studios and a Multifunction Events facility.
The Cisco teaching spaces generally consist of Cisco codecs, as well as multiple peripherals such as PTZ cameras, Quad Cameras, Room Bar/Room Bar Pro’s, as well as other third party peripherals such as Sennheiser ceiling microphones. The systems reside on the clients network and Fredon installed, commissioned and coordinated with the clients network team to ensure a seamless rollout of the technology. These teaching spaces enable flexible VC and engagement for all users.
The TV/Media Studios have been fit out with a vast array of Blackmagic video routing equipment which is supported by 12G video cabling, all designed, installed, tested and commissioned by Fredon on the clients production video network. The studio also has motorised lighting bars, complete with wall mounted control points which enable users to drop the lighting rigs to floor level for a safe and secure way of changing production lighting arrangements. Fredon participated in multiple design workshops with the clients end user, to ensure a cutting edge fit-for-purpose system design.
Multipurpose Space – This space is designed for a broad range of events. From conferences, to live bands, the MPS contains a both a Cisco VC system (for conferences and showing of local presentations) as well as a JBL line array PA system, 10 x motorised lighting rigs complete with production lighting, custom Ultralift projector lifter, projector and 200’ projection screen.
The MPS is equipped with Blackmagic video routing equipment, enabling streaming to the Media/TV control rooms for mixing of live events, as well as Allen & Heath mixing consoles and a production Dante network. This enables any live events/bands audio to be mixed by an onsite operator.
Music Studios – The music studios consist of 4 x studios, as well as 2 x control rooms. Interconnectivity between the studios and control rooms is achieved via multiple tie lines, in the form of Bantam, 12G SDI, and Siemon data patch panels. The patch panels are presented inside the racks in the Control Rooms, with the field end terminated to TIP (technical input plates) plates in the studios. These tie lines are used to distribute multiple different signal/systems.
The music control rooms have also been equipped with AVID S6 and S4 consoles, along with MTRX units. This enables the distribution and mixing/recording of live sessions between all 3 unique areas (Music Studios, MPS, TV Studios).
The team completed this project in August 2025.
