One of Australia’s largest fresh produce distributors, Montague Foods, has expanded its facilities in Narre Warren North, a suburb located in south-east Melbourne.

The main feature of this greenfield development is the expansive fruit processing warehouse and the advanced automated fruit grading and packing technology. In addition, the expansion includes The Orchard, a new community engagement centre complete with a cafe, retail space and a public picking orchard where visitors can learn more about Montague’s fruit production. The construction of new office space was also part of the project.

Qanstruct engaged Fredon to complete the Electrical and Communication works:

  • Major electrical site infrastructure including installing consumer mains, Power Factor Correction (PFC) & Active Harmonic Filters (AHF) systems, main switchboards, sub mains and distribution switchboard.
  • Install two new dedicated substations onsite, a total 2.5MVA.
  • Major communications site infrastructure connecting the existing packing facility 1km away with the new developments
  • General lighting, power installation, and communication systems for the new buildings
  • Process line works, including electrical sub-boards feeding various Motor Control Centers, separate metering of lines, separate PFC & AHF systems for the lines, and communications links for Client control / process automation.

The new processing facility is now in operation and The Orchard at Montague is also open to the public.
