The North Head Water Resource Recovery Facility, located in Manly, is a major wastewater treatment plant servicing approximately one million people across a 452 square kilometre catchment, extending from Seven Hills in the west to Bankstown in the south and up to Ku-ring-gai and Collaroy in the north. Treating up to 336 million litres of wastewater each day, the facility plays a critical role in supporting public health and environmental outcomes for the region.

Fredon was engaged to deliver the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of electrical systems as part of a significant upgrade to the plant, including works associated with the construction of two new digesters.

As part of the project, Fredon undertook a detailed electrical design to meet Sydney Water standards, including a comprehensive earthing assessment and system design to ensure a safe and compliant installation, along with the assessment, design, and installation of a site-wide lightning protection system. Additional works included the design of access and egress lighting for new and modified outdoor stairs and work areas, ensuring safe operation and maintenance across the facility. During the design phase, Fredon also supported Confluence Water by developing cable ladder layouts and 3D modelling to LOD350 within two new switch rooms, while updating cable schedules and producing detailed termination schedules for all low voltage, control, and instrumentation cabling.

Once on site, Fredon continued to provide design support to civil and structural subcontractors, assisting in the coordination and modelling of underground service routes and cable tray support systems to align with construction sequencing and delivery targets. Working within a live brownfield environment, the project required careful planning and integration to minimise disruption to existing operations, with tailored cable containment and lighting solutions developed to address complex safety requirements, including working at heights across process structures.

The result is a coordinated and robust electrical installation that enhances the reliability, safety, and long-term performance of this critical infrastructure asset.
