The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital have served the Melbourne community for over 150 years, and is Australia’s only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital.

The hospital began a multistage redevelopment in 2013 to upgrade the facilities in order to provide greater health care and accessibility for current and future patients.

Fredon has been engaged to deliver the construction of the Mechanical package for the project, which involves constructing a new infill building and refurbishment of existing buildings. The works are being completed in a live environment and involve: 

  • Building Management System (BMS)
  • Medical Gases and Associated Plant
  • Mechanical Air Handling plant, providing Air Conditioning and Ventilation to multiple areas.
  • Heating and Chilled Water plant
  • Steam modifications
  • Specialist Exhaust systems
  • Zone pressurisation & Smoke
  • Specialist exhaust systems, stair pressurisation systems
  • Sound booths & Coolrooms

Once complete, the redevelopment will deliver eight operating rooms, 14 recovery spaces, 37 same-day beds/chairs, 24 overnight stay inpatient beds, 42 multi-functional and flexible outpatient consulting rooms, improved teaching, training and research facilities and an updated pharmacy.
