Fredon commenced work on the NSW Government’s  Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) project in April 2025. The WHT project involves constructing 6.5-kilometre twin tunnels, with three lanes in each direction, connecting Rozelle Interchange with Warringah Freeway near North Sydney, crossing Sydney Harbour beneath Birchgrove, Yurulbin Point, Berrys Bay, and North Sydney. Creating a western bypass of the Sydney CBD, WHT will enhance travel in and around Sydney.

The 6.5km tunnel includes the use of two 15.7-meter diameter tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to excavate the 1.5-kilometre section of twin tunnels beneath Sydney Harbour.

Fredon’s scope of work includes the material supply, installation, and construction verification of the Motorway Tunnel LV Equipment and all associated Systems in the northern section of the tunnel mainline carriageways and associated ramps.

Fredon will also complete the fit out of Electrical Equipment Rooms, Cross Passages & Long Egress Passage Electrical, MVAC and cooling systems in the northern section of the tunnels.

Fredon’s works will be delivered in 6 separable portions and completed in 2027, before the motorway is scheduled to open in 2028
