The WA Chapter of the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) held their annual State Apprentice and Excellence Awards last Friday. These awards highlight the outstanding achievements of individuals and businesses in the Electrical and Communications industry.

We are proud to share that two of our 1st-year Apprentices were recognised on the evening. Congratulations to Sanduni Senanayake, who won State Winner 1st Year Apprentice of the Year, and Bianca Vaz De Oliveira, who received a Highly Commended 1st Year Apprentice of the Year.

Our WA Electrical team also won three State Awards-

WA State Winner Commercial Large Project – One the Esplanade

One the Esplanade is an integrated mixed-use development towering 30 storeys tall, with two basement levels and three levels of interconnected podium structure. Fredon was on this project for five years, and we were engaged in designing and constructing state-of-the-art electrical and communications systems for the building.

The project incorporated the latest building technology in which our team delivered solutions such as Clevertronics HIVE and Dali/KNX lighting control systems and Apex wiring solutions that overall optimised the performance and flexibility of the building systems.

WA State Winner ICT & AV for One the Esplanade

Fredon utilised innovative methods to increase efficiency when installing the building-wide Integrated Communications Network.

Fredon worked extensively with the client to create a solution combining multiple systems into a single, easy-to-manage and monitor platform. Our team created a cable platform to hold 24 drums of Cat6A, which aided in installing numerous 24 port consolidation points. They also installed cable matting, which increased the clearance between the cables and the floor tiles. It took 5 minutes to lay out and secure 20m of matting. In addition, the team used MPO terminated fibre backbone cable, saving time and increasing the network installation’s efficiency.

WA State Winner Lighting & Design & Construct for Boola Katitjin Building (Building 360) Murdoch University

Our Electrical team was recognised for their innovative lighting and design work for Murdoch University’s Boola Katitjin Building.

This building is a first of its kind in Western Australia, with most of the structure made out of laminated timber, which meant our team had to change how they executed their Electrical work. As part of the aesthetic of the building, it had no ceiling spaces, resulting in exposed services that had to blend into the architectural finish of the building.

Our team had to carefully plan and coordinate the installations to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship was implemented when installing the services and that it was integrated seamlessly into the design.

Congratulations everyone on your well-deserved achievements!
