The NSW chapter of the National Electrical and Communication Association (NECA) held their 2020/2021 Excellence and Apprentice Awards last Friday via a live stream.
We are delighted to announce Fredon won two State Excellence Awards, and our 4th-year apprentice, Ryan Ferris, received an Apprentice Award in the Commercial / Domestic Category.
NSW State Winner: Lighting Design & Installation for NorthConnex Tunnel
Fredon was recognised for the aesthetic lighting design and installation on the NorthConnex Tunnel project.
The NorthConnex Tunnel is Australia’s first tunnel to feature aesthetic lighting installations along the length of the tunnel. The lighting installations involved using 5500 LED lights and resulted in lighting features of backlit silhouettes of trees along the Northbound tunnel and LED lights simulating the night sky in the southbound tunnel.
NSW State Winner: Industrial Small for Coil Plate Line 2
The Coil Plate Line 2 project is a new slitting line for BlueScope. It is one of Australia’s only two productions lines, and it has been designed to process 30 tonnes of mass hot-rolled coils from its hot strip mill and convert them to coil plates up to 6mm in gauge, 1500mm wide and 6m long.
Fredon was engaged to undertake a design vertification and construction of the electrical installation to the project. It involved installation and termination of 11kV high voltage supply cable, all cable reticulation and termination, building data and communications, installation of electrical equipment, overhead crane modification, switch rooms, fire detection and commissioning works with the client.
Highly Commended – Apprentice of the Year in Commercial / Domestic
Fredon’s 4th-year Electrical Apprentice, Ryan Ferris, achieved 2nd place in the Commercial / Domestic category of the Apprentice Awards 2021.
Ryan, who is currently working on the Sydney Football Stadium project, was nominated for his improved quality workmanship and willingness to learn and take on any task with the determination to complete the work to a high standard. The quality of work Ryan is producing is equal to an accomplished tradesman.
